Closing Time...

I’ve followed a lot of friends into things blindly. I bought an electric guitar because my friend did. I went into engineering because my friends did. I joined a church group because my friends had. I started a blog because my friend did.

But I’ve always tried to maintain independence, tried to go against the grain, to be a nonconforming nonconformist. I now play the bass. I went to a college 5 hours from home instead of in state. I’ve started to actually feel like I belong where I am. I used my blog not for informative purposes, but to serve a petty need to complain about those things I can’t change, or simply to offend or amuse those reading.

It’s a character flaw I’ve dealt with for some time now, needing to be that lone ranger, but not taking the first leap, just a larger second.

Today I found out the person I followed into the blogosphere has moved on to another blogging site. One that is more customizable and easier to use.

Today I follow him into this new place. My reasons are my own, however. I’ve become a different person in the past few months due to the relationships I’ve forged, the person who started [Obscure Descriptor] no longer exists.

It seems my enemy has become my ally, a reference only dedicated readers will get, but probably not fully understand.

This blog has been a place of hate and amusement, but with less and less to hate or muse about, I feel I’ve been leaving some readers wanting more. And that I cannot give. I can however give something else: a part of me, a look into my soul, and understanding of who I am.

My blogging rebirth isn’t fit for a hellish site as this, and will be better realized in a new setting. This has been a trouble in my mind for a while and now I feel it’s time to do something about it. Mostly because I have a day off and nothing better to do. EDIT: Nothing I want to do, like the two papers due Sunday…

This site will remain open as an archival reminder of who I was and for those who wish to revisit it in memory of your fallen comrade. And who knows, maybe I’ll be feeling a bit devilish one day and post something up here.

Untitled Official Post

I once said that as long as I have something to complain about, this blog would continue to thrive. My two regular readers would agree that I’ve been a bit lacking lately in my number of posts and the amount of hate that accompanies my far and few between. Such is the price to pay for living an improved life. And now, the consequences come to you, my reader, in the form of boring text and unfulfillment. Sucks for you.

It appears I’ve started a trend with myself to use my blogging prowess to do exactly that, blog. I now welcome myself to a life of metrosexuality, light gray sweater vests with light blue collared shirts, martinis, fauxhawks and plucked eyebrows to match. My first true defining blogging moment was about something I truly believed in, an ideal, and I will continue that today with my next blog about global warming.

Recently, Al Gore gave a testimony to a Senate Committee led by John Kerry – and already this is turning into a bad joke, or a political nightmare – about the man-made effects on global climate change. Now I’m not going to bore you with the details of his testimony, though if you have three hours to kill, I suggest looking up C-Spans archives and watching the whole thing, or at least the first hour, where Gore gives some compelling evidence of crises that have arisen due to the global climate.

And no, we are not going to drown because the polar icecaps are going to melt. We are going to drown because the land based glaciers in Peru, the Himalayans, and Greenland are going to melt.

As any good revolutionary does, Gore not only pointed out all the problems, he offered some solutions. Some quite good solutions. And although I do not know what sequestering carbon means, I know it at least sounds like a good idea, something about taking the carbon based gases in the atmosphere and putting them into the dirt to make sustainable soil for crops that can be used to feed hunger stricken third world countries and a source of biofuels, among several other great ideas that will ultimately lead to bettering the nation’s and world’s economies.

Now, some may be thinking “but Jeremy! Didn’t you say that global warming was a farce? And that the climate is changing because on the timeline of the Earth, we are coming out of an ice age and the temperature is expected to rise?” To you I say, quit thinking so Goddamned much, and yes. I did say that.

I’m not fully supporting everything Gore has said. There is a plethora of evidence to contradict the numbers and information he spewed forth to Kerry and the committee, but that doesn’t mean Gore is all that bad.

His ideas and plans will lead the way to creating a healthier environment, thousands of jobs, free energy, food, and money. And, if he’s right, Earth will be saved from boiling in its own atmosphere. Interesting fact – Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, has a yearly average temperature of 355*F, Venus, second planet, with a thick rich layer of carbon dioxide covering it, nearly five times the amount we do, has a yearly average temperature of 875*F, Earth, 59*F. Maybe there is some truth to what he says.

In either event, Gore shouldn’t be written off as a complete lunatic. Where the madness behind his methods may be flawed, his methods still warrant some consideration, Manbearpig aside.
